Individual Behavior Plan Form
The aim of the Francis Marion's behavior plan is to create and maintain a safe learning environment. We will assist students in developing personal pride in being responsible school citizens. The role of the Francis Marion community is to teach and model responsible decision making.
Only in a situation where a teacher has good disciplinary control of a class can the maximum learning take place. Appropriate behavior can and should be taught. We do not assume all students entering the school know acceptable/appropriate behavior. Learning is a process taking practice and positive reinforcement. All adults in the building should be involved in teaching responsible behavior.
Some offenses for which a staff member may refer a student to the office are:
Offenses can result in either in school or out of school suspensions. In such a case all regular class work will be required to be completed. The principal will follow the due-process procedures in related situations as directed by board policies.
Ultimately it is the responsibility of the student to demonstrate appropriate behavior.
The classroom teacher generally handles the discipline within his/her classroom. Discipline can take on many forms, but the keys when dealing with young people are having consistent and clearly described expectations with the understanding that consequences follow inappropriate behavior. All staff are familiar with the 1, 2, 3, magic discipline strategies and should use them in the common areas and are encouraged to use them also in their individual classroom.
When teachers require a student to stay after school for academic or disciplinary reasons, parents will be notified. If a student is unable to stay that day, the student is expected to stay the following day.
If a staff member desires or requires additional assistance with any disciplinary problem, he/she is to bring the student to the principal's attention, or call the Crisis Prevention/ Intervention (CPI) Team. Individual student behavior plans, directing students to work toward a positive solution will be required by all students referred to the principal's office.
Alternative recesses will be required for students who habitually break recess rules. The purpose of this recess is to separate disruptive students from the regular recess activity and replace it with a more structured setting where these students can practice appropriate ways to play.
Teachers may refer students for alternate recess by filling out the referral form. Alternative recess could be apart of the individual behavior plan. The principal will make the final decision as to who participates in this program. Students who are referred to alternative recess will be required to attend a minimum of three days.
Textbooks are provided by the school district. Fines are charged for lost or damaged books.
Destruction or disfiguration of school property is unlawful and will be followed with an appropriate penalty. Pupils found marking on walls or desks will be expected to repair the damage done or to pay for replacement.
The primary responsibility for appearance rests with the students and their parents. The guide as to what to wear to school is in the form of a question. Will what I am wearing disrupt the learning environment? If the answer to this question is, "yes", then the dress is inappropriate. Clothing or other apparel promoting products which are illegal for use by minors, such as alcohol, tobacco, or drugs, or clothing displaying obscene material, profanity, or reference to subversion are not appropriate. The administration reserves the right to judge what is proper and what is not.
The following guidelines shall apply:
During cold weather students will remain outside until 8:05 a.m. daily. Encourage your students to dress accordingly. (Chill factors below zero or rain are exceptions.)
Students are permitted to ride bicycles to school with parental knowledge and permission. We respect the decisions of the parents in this matter. Once the bicycle is at school, it is to be locked and not ridden until dismissal. Safety rules should be stressed concerning bicycle usage. Bicycles are to be walked while on the school grounds
Skateboards, scooters, roller blades, or rollerskate tennis shoes are NOT allowed on school grounds because of the lack of storage space and safety reasons. If these are brought to school they will be confiscated and a parent will be asked to retrieve it.
Arrive at school between 7:45 and 7:53 when supervision is provided.
Enter the building before 7:53 in these instances:
Use designated north doors for breakfast and daycare.
Exit to the playground using the north door after eating breakfast.
Sit along the lockers in respective hallways during inclement weather.
Cones will be place on playground before school to prevent car's access to playground
Proceed to your locker in an orderly manner at dismissal.
Leave school grounds promptly or remain in classroom until bus dismissal.
Students must go home and check for permission to return to school grounds. (No earlier than 4:00 pm)
During assemblies there will be a respectful atmosphere for visiting guests, performers, and speakers.
The bus zone will be place of safety and organization where everyone feels comfortable.
The Restrooms will be clean sanitary places where people practice good hygiene in a quiet and private atmosphere.
The Play areas will be safe supervised places to play and socialize during school hours.
The Hallway will be for safe efficient passage using courteous behavior.
The Computer labs will be places where helpful and respectful users care for computer equipment.
The areas used before and after school will have a safe and respectful atmosphere.
The Lunch room will be a respectful place where people enjoy a healthy meal while participating in friendly conversation.
The Nurse's Office will be a safe and orderly area for students to recieve medical assistance.
Specific rules for the Common Goal Areas are displayed throughout the building on posters and taught by all staff.
Clarification:
Before school- after unloading from the bus, students are to walk to
the playground area through the south parking lot. Students being
dropped off by parents from 3rd Ave. should use the sidewalk on the
west side of the building to walk to the playground. When dropping
students off from the driveway be sure to drive pass teh bus lanes
and let the students out on the playground side oth the car. The bus
lane must be kept open at all times. cres needing to be parked must
use the lot or street parking areas.
After school- Bus students line up in the appropriate lines and board the bus after the bus supervisor gives permission. Students who are walking east are to cross the driveway either at the street entrance or at the crosswalk by the playground. (Student should not cross between the busses). Parents are asked to pick up their student on the curbside, either on 3rd Ave., the parking lot, or from the playground over flow area. Cars ma use the plaground over flow are after school to park and wait for the students' dismissal.
Go out for recess unless special arrangements are made.
Consider safety of others and yourself in all areas during play.
Use playground equipment properly and safely.
Show respect and good sportsmanship.
Practice conflict resolution.
Remain outside until admitted.
Form 2 lines promptly when bell rings.
Return equipment to proper place.
Clarifications about snow rules:
Students who violate school rules while on the playground may be told to "stand against the wall". Playground supervisors determine what warnings are appropriate and the length of tme a student must stand against the wall. This is a good time to use the 1, 2, 3, magic strategy.
Clarifications about hallway rules:
Teachers are to ve in the halls supervising when his/her class is
walking in the halls. Teachers should walk student to and from
specials.
