Kelly Wilkinson, kwilkinson@marion.k12.ia.usSODA (Students OK without Drugs and Alcohol) is a program which was developed for kids to enjoy planned activities as alternatives to experimenting with drugs an alcohol. The program begins in Marion at the 4th grade level and continues throughout high school. One objective is to provide various large group activities. The second is to provide positive role models for other students. The third goal is to encourage all students to make safe, responsible and appropriate decisions. Here at FMI, there are currently 119 students involved at the 4th grade level and another 100 5th graders. Activities that have been done this past school year have included open gym, a board game night, a swimming time at the YMCA, a movie day, iced skating and or course, drinking soda and eating snacks.
