Marion Music Boosters

Marion Music Boosters are the parents who support the music education of our high school children.  We have raised money for choir robes, marching band uniforms, concert band uniforms, risers, acoustical shells and the trailer used by the music program.  To raise money for these needs, we operate and staff the concessions stands for many high school athletic events, including football, basketball, volleyball, and wrestling competitions.  We also help host the annual Marion Marching Band Invitational held each fall and this year we hosted 18 marching bands. 

We invite you to join us in our efforts to support our children and the music program of Marion High School.  By volunteering your time to help staff the concession stands, you get an opportunity to know other parents and students and build relationships that help you share in your child’s high school experience. 

 

The other opportunity you gain by offering a few hours of your time to help out is that you earn points for each hour you work. These points will translate into dollars to help offset the cost of the next music trip.  A trip is taken to a destination every other year.

 

Points can be earned by working concession, chaperoning events, and attending monthly meetings.  Just attending the monthly meeting will earn 1 point per person. Concessions earn 1 point for each hour of work. Chaperoning earns ½ point for each hour of work. The cost of these trips can really add up. The last trip to Orlando cost each student approximately $800. Some parents and their student worked enough hours in two years to completely pay for their student’s trip! Points for the last trip were translated to $3 per point (this will vary from trip to trip). The next trip is scheduled for the spring of 2011.  The destination is yet to be determined, but locations such as San Antonio and New Orleans are being considered.

 

During off-trip years, 8th grade music students and their parents are very welcome to attend our meetings and are encouraged to volunteer their time to earn points for help defray the cost of the next trip.  The Marion Music Boosters meet the third Monday of every month at 7:00 pm in the band room of the high school. 

 

Please take a minute to consider volunteering a few hours of your time to not only help the music program, but to also work towards offsetting the cost of your child’s next music trip.  If you are interested in volunteering and earning points, please contact Judy Lubben at: 377-5524.
