CALENDAR CHANGES Some changes to the school calendar were necessary to comply with Department of Education recommendations. For VMS, they are as follows: February 5th-NO SCHOOL-teacher comp day, February 15th-FULL DAY OF SCHOOL, June 2nd-Early out & last day of school and June 3rd-Teacher Workday.

Vernon Middle School is located two blocks south of the main business district in Marion, Iowa. It is a middle school with sixth through eighth grade in the building. There are nearly 450 students and over 60 staff members in the building. The building under went an extensive remodeling in 1974 when a new gymnasium and media center were added to the structure. In 1996 all classrooms in the building were wired for telephones and Internet access. In 1999 a new Science Lab and a new Industrial Technology Lab were added.
