Basketball is the fastest-growing sport in the world for many reasons. First, basketball is a tremendously popular spectator sport, particularly on television. The televising of NBA, WNBA, and college games worldwide has influenced many young athletes to compete in the sport. Basketball is for everyone. It is played by both sexes of all ages, sizes and also by the physically challenged. Although there are advantages to being tall, there are also many opportunities for a smaller, skilled player. Participation among older players and female players is growing. More girls play interscholastic high school basketball than any other sport. During the basketball unit we teach basic skills, lead up games and finish with a 3 on 3 tournament. Because of the variety of activities it allows everyone to have success in our class.
