Presidential Fitness Testing

In physical education class we use the Presidential Fitness Test as one of our assessment tools. This assessment consists of the mile run, shuttle run, pull-ups, sit-ups, and sit & reach. The mile run is a test to measure heart and lung endurance by running the fastest time to cover a one-mile distance. The shuttle run is used to measure speed, as well as agility. To measure upper body strength and endurance, the students will perform as many pull-ups as possible. The sit-up test is used to measure abdominal strength and endurance by completing as many repetitions in a one minute time period. The sit and reach assessment is used to measure flexibility of the lower back and hamstrings. A student’s height, weight, and body composition is factored in with the Presidential assessment to give an accurate idea of the students’ optimal health.
