Tennis is a sport that can be played between two players as well as two teams of two players called doubles. In singles one player is the designated server and the other the receiver. In a legal serve, the ball is hit over the net without touching it, into the diagonally opposite serving box. If the ball hits the net in lands into the correct service box it is call a let and the server gets to serve over without any penalty. A tennis match is composed of sets. A set consists of games. The game in turn consists of points. A game is won when a player wins four points in total and at least two points more that the opponent. The scores in tennis are called “love”, “fifteen”, “thirty”, and “forty”. At Vernon Middle School we concentrate on skills, lead up games and at the end of the unit will play games. Tennis is a great life time sport to learn and you can play at any age.
